Imran Khan, the founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has rejected calls to apologise for the events of May 9 and distanced his party from the violent protests that broke out across the country after his incarceration last year. Khan has also refused to submit to the demands of the military.
"Why should it be my responsibility to apologise? The former prime minister stated, "I should be the target of the apology," in a lighthearted conversation with media on Wednesday at Adiala Jail.
Despite a barrage of allegations ranging from official secrets act violations to embezzlement, Imran stuck to his guns.
The prisoner's rebellion was a reaction to the Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press conference on Tuesday, during which he asked everyone connected to the violent protests of May 9 to ask for forgiveness and give up on the politics of "anarchy" before having any kind of conversation.
The chief military spokesperson flatly rejected the idea of having a conversation with people who disrespect the nation's martyrs and attack military sites during the lengthy news conference.
In addition, he declared that the law and the Constitution will impose penalties on those found guilty and accountable for the events of May 9.
The chief military spokesperson alluded to a judicial investigation into the 2014 sit-in, and the former prime minister made this announcement during his media briefing on Wednesday. He also stated that he was prepared for any investigation into the event.
"If I am called before the inquiry committee, I will be pleased. Every accusation made against me in relation to the 2014 sit-in is untrue. The election of ROs occurred in 2013," he claimed.
In light of the Form-47 remark made by former acting prime minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, Imran Khan also questioned the viability of talks with the federal administration.
During a heated argument over the wheat scam with PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi, Kakar reportedly warned that he would reveal something shocking about Form-47, saying it "would leave the PML-N red-faced".
He added that PML-N members had suggested there would be no elections and that Nawaz Sharif would not visit the nation again till Justice Qazi Faiz Isa was appointed chief justice.
He attacked the electoral procedures, claiming that there had been fraud in the Senate, prime minister, president, and chief minister of Punjab. He said that in private talks with PML-N members, they disclosed their view that the selection of Justice Qazi Faiz Isa as chief justice will determine elections and the return of Sharif.
Imran stated that half of his family works in the bureaucracy and the other half is in the army. "We own the army, and we have no issues with it," he declared.
"I was only made aware of the May 9 incidents when I was brought before the Supreme Court. In front of Umar Atta Bandial, the chief justice at the time, I denounced the events on May 9," he declared.
"Please, don't involve the troops in politics. In our 27-year existence, we have never engaged in agitation. Because our political party does not desire instability, we dissolved two administrations [in Punjab and at the Centre] in order to have elections, the imprisoned leader stated.
