The cost of solar panels in Pakistan has abruptly decreased to Rs. 37 per Watt, a reduction of more than half from Rs. 80 per Watt in 2022.
Due to oversupply in the local market and a decline in global prices, solar panel prices have decreased. Rates have decreased by about thirty percent over the last six months, with panels from different brands currently costing about Rs. 37 per Watt.
The cost of a 5kW solar power system has decreased by Rs. 215,000, bringing the total cost down by Rs. 430,000.
Batteries and inverter rates are still the same.
Just two weeks have passed since the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) requested that the government impose a tax on users of solar power, both residential and commercial. The CPPA-G proposed a fixed tax of Rs. 2,000 per kilowatt on users of solar panels.
Later, the Power Division refuted reports that it was imposing a fixed tax on solar power, but it did not refute reports that it was lowering buyback rates for net metering electricity from the current Rs. 21 to Rs. 11 per unit.
